Wednesday 1 October, 2-5pm
These comfy seats that have appeared recently in the Garden mark the launch of the ‘Hackney Circle’ – a new free membership scheme for older residents. It provides free events, activities and a range of special offers in cafés, businesses and cultural venues in and around Dalston Square. The initiative has been developed by Hackney based ‘The Decorators ‘ supported by Hackney Council in partnership with local businesses and organisations.
The first event in a nine-week pilot scheme was a film screening at the Rio Cinema, there will be a special performance at the Arcola Theatre and a month-long programme of photo preservation workshops at the Hackney Archives.
We are teaming up on Wednesday 1 October with our friends at Cafe Route on Dalston Square to host a Mediterranean Garden party. Melek from the Cafe will be demonstrating some of her simple, healthy Meditteranean cooking, using fresh herbs from the Garden and Hackney Circle members will be able to bake their own flat breads in the Garden’s wood-fired oven. The Open School East’s ‘Parallel Radio‘ intergenerational group will be presenting a show about food and eating in East London.
Membership of Hackney Circle is free and open to all Hackney residents aged 60 and over. All members will receive a booklet packed-full of special offer vouchers for cafés, restaurants and leisure activities that will introduce them to spaces which they may have never visited before.
You can find out more information about the Hackney Circle here.
Residents can sign up for the Garden party, and become a member of Hackney Circle by contacting Lucy McMenemy on the phone 020 8356 2919 or by email lucy.mcmenemy@hackney.gov.uk
