Sound Tracks Festival – free workshop for children

Saturday 11 May 2-4pm

On the afternoon of 11 May, Sound Tracks  have organised a free workshop for children to listen, play and create a city symphony!

This is a creative workshop for ages 5-10 to listen out for the sounds of the city around them, draw or illustrate what they hear, and make new music using collected sounds recorded from everyday sources.

Children can explore the Garden with their own set of hand-made ‘coat hanger ear gongs’, discovering how sound waves travel through the natural and built environment, and make new sounds to record on digital mp3 players to playback to each other. They will then put their collected sounds together to compose a short piece of music, played using a synthesizer, and add more beats and background sounds. Everyone’s music will be connected together to make one shared new city soundscape!

The children can take home their own drawings and decorated ear gongs to find more music in the sounds around them.

Please note, places on the workshop are limited, so come early!

As always, children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult.
