Plans to re-open the Garden

Dalston Eastern Curve Garden is currently closed to the public, due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

We are still here at the Garden most days, with a small team of staff and volunteers, caring for the plants. We are also working hard to rebuild some of our entrance area structures, to enable us to be able to adhere to social distancing guidelines. This work is urgent and essential, as we will only open up once we are confident that we can keep all of our staff and visitors safe.

Since the people haven’t been able to come to the Garden, we have been working hard to ‘bring the Garden to the people’. We have continued to support our community, including Hackney Food Bank, Holy Trinity Primary School, local food distribution and community projects and vulnerable residents.

Like many charities and social enterprises, we have been impacted significantly by the Covid-19 crisis. We operate the Garden as an independent social enterprise, generating most of the income needed to keep the Garden open for everyone to enjoy 12 months of the year, 7 days a week, through the proceeds of our cafe. We also invest these proceeds into funding our year-round programme of free workshops, children’s activities and community events, including our annual Pumpkin Lantern Festival.

Since closing our doors to the public in March 2020, Dalston Curve Garden has lost 100% of its income and to date we have been unable to access any grant funding. We generate most of the annual income for the Garden’s entire year of day to day operations and programming, during April – September each year. The loss of all of our summer income so far has already had a devastating impact on our finances, not just on our current situation and on our plans to celebrate the Garden’s 10th anniversary due to launch this summer, but on our ability to survive and thrive in the year ahead.

If you would like to support our work in making essential adjustments to our entrance area and to help us ensure that the Garden not only survives this damaging period but also continues to offer much needed green space for Hackney residents to enjoy, please visit ‘Support the Garden’ where you can make a donation.

Rest assured that here in Dalston Curve Garden the flowers are still growing, the birds are still singing, the bees are still buzzing and Nature will still be here for all to enjoy, together again, we hope very soon.

Keep well everyone!

With love and friendship from Marie & Brian and everyone at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden
