Dalston Eastern Curve Garden is closed… for the moment

Our hearts go out to each and everyone of you, to your families, your friends, your communities and to our beloved Hackney, as we all try to navigate our way through the rapidly unfolding situation with COVID-19, that we all now find ourselves having to adapt to.

We are so very sad to say that as of today, we have to close Dalston Eastern Curve Garden to the public, at least for a while.

This has been a very painful decision for us. We have worked hard all week to keep the Garden open to the public for as long as we possibly could. We wanted to be able to offer a familiar green space for people to sit, walk and feel calm in, amidst this horribly worrying and unsettling time. Every visitor during this time has told us how much they have valued being able to connect with nature and felt reassured by at least seeing other people, despite having to remain physically apart. We are very grateful to everyone who helped us make that happen – to our staff for working so hard to keep everything sanitised, to our volunteers and to the visitors who observed our social distancing guidelines.

Although we have not been instructed to close, our priority has to be to keep everyone safe and healthy and we need to be part of the collective effort to stop transmission of COVID-19.

Our number one purpose, from the day we first opened the Garden ten years ago, has always been to offer beautiful green space for everyone to benefit from, in an area where many people do not have their own garden. We have also worked hard in that time to create a space for people not just to connect with nature, but also with each other. Now that the people can’t come to the Garden, we are putting all of our efforts into planning how to make the Garden come to the people. We are determined to support our community, offering help where it is most needed, to those who are most vulnerable and in the ways that we feel we might be particularly well placed to do.

How we do that is for another day and your suggestions and thoughts about that are all very welcome. You can email us at info@dalstongarden.org

We will still be here with a small team of staff and volunteers, looking after the plants and working hard to do all the jobs that need to be done to make the Garden ready for when we are able to open up for everyone once more.

For the moment though rest assured that here in Dalston Eastern Curve Garden the beautiful Spring flowers are still growing, the birds are still singing, the bees are still buzzing and it will still be here for us all to enjoy, together again, in the future.

Keep well everyone!

With love and friendship from Marie & Brian and everyone at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden
