Summer half-term holiday activities for children
We’ve got three days of activities for children over the summer half-term holidays, all leading up to a Big Banquet celebrating all things fruit and vegetable!
These activities are free and suitable for ages 5-15*.
Wednesday 1 June, 2-5pm
Printing for a banquet
Textile designer Emamoke Ukeleghe who recently ran the ‘Hackney Head Wraps’ workshop in the Garden, will be teaching how to print fabrics. Using a variety of techniques, including stencil and potato printing and with plants as the inspiration, we’ll be making lovely table cloths, bunting, and napkins to decorate the Garden for our banquet on Friday.
Thursday 2 June, 2-5pm
Big Tomato Day
Get your apron on and learn how to prepare all kinds of delicious fresh food with tomatoes, vegetables and herbs from the Garden, for gobbling up at our big banquet on Friday.
Friday 3 June, 2-5pm
Kaleidoscope of Fruit and Vegetables
Local artist Nicola Plant is returning to the Garden for this workshop of drawing, painting and pattern making, using fruit and vegetables.
This will be followed by the Big Banquet for everyone who has taken part in any of the week’s workshops. *The banquet will be organised by young people aged 11-15, but anyone can help. Starting time for the festivities is 5pm!
Children should be accompanied by an adult. You don’t need to book, but try to come on time!
This summer half-term programme has been funded by the Sunny Fund and by the Off Centre, a counselling, therapy, advice and information service for anyone aged between 11 and 25 who lives, works or studies in Hackney. The Off Centre are funding the programme for older children, as part of their on-going support for cooking and food-growing activities for young people at the Garden .
