Join stone mason Bobbie Fennick for this workshop learning to carve your own ‘garden gargoyle’, using a breeze block.

Bobbie’s experience ranges from large restoration projects including St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Palaces of Westminster and the Brighton Royal Pavilion to carving, lettercutting and gilding jobs including Kensington Palace and the Putney War Memorial.

Places on the gargoyles workshop are free, but a contribution of £5 towards materials is requested. Numbers for this workshop are limited and must be booked in advance at http://www.thekindest.org/gardengargoyles

No previous experience is needed.

Bobbie will be running a second gargoyles workshop on Sunday 24 July.

Saturday 11 June

Open Garden Squares Weekend is an annual celebration of London’s rich diversity of green spaces – historic  squares, community gardens, roof-tops and even gardens on floating barges. It’s the opportunity to visit many gardens that are not normally open to the public or that are usually closed on weekends. If you want to visit any of the 200+ gardens which are part of the event, weekend tickets are £10 or £7.50 in advance – you can visit www.opensquares.org for more information.

Although the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden is free and open to the public every day, we will be participating in the event this Saturday with volunteer Eastern Curve Gardeners on hand 2-6pm to answer questions about the Garden.  We will also be marking the occasion by selling teas and edible botanical delights in our pop-up ‘tea-room’, to raise funds for the Garden.

While you are in the area on Saturday, you can also visit our neighbours at Farm:Shop, St Mary’s Secret Garden in Haggerston and King Henry’s Walk in Mildmay, who are all taking part in Open Garden Squares. On Sunday you can pop along for tea at Fassett Square, just off Graham Road, reputed to be the inspiration for that famous square in Walford, home of many an East End dramatic incident.
